14 Cards in this Set

  • Front
  • Back
Reinforcement that occurs following a response but that is not contingent on that response.
Adventitious reinforcement
The absence of a specific reinforce for a period of time.
Deprivation
A reinforce that immediately follows a behaviour.
Direct-acting effect (reinforcer)
A reinforcer that follows a response after a long delay and has its effect on the response through verbal behaviour instead of by immediately following the response.
Indirect-acting effect (reinforcer)
Events or operations that temporarily decrease the effectiveness of consequences as reinforcers or punishers, and decrease the likelihood of behaviours that normally lead to those reinforcers or increase the likelihood of behaviours that normally lead to those punishers.
Motivating abolishing operation
Events or operations that temporarily increase the effectiveness of consequences as reinforcers or punishers, and increase the likelihood of behaviours that lead to those reinforcers or decrease the likelihood of behaviours that lead to those punishers.
Motivating establishing operation
Events or operations that (a) temporarily alter the effectiveness of consequences as reinforcers or punishers (a value-altering effect) (b) influence behaviours that normally lead to those reinforcers or punishers (a behaviour-altering effect).
Motivating operations (MOs)
Setting in which an individual carries out normal, everyday functions outside of a situation explicitly designed for training.
Natural environment
Reinforcers that follow behavior in the course of everyday living—i.e., reinforcers that occur normally in the natural environment.
Natural reinforcers
Behaviour that is influenced by its consequences.
Operant behaviours
Presentation of a positive reinforce immediately following a response with the effect that the response is strengthened or increased in frequency.
Positive reinforcer
A stimulus the presentation of which immediately after a response causes the response to be strengthened or increased in frequency.
Positive reinforcement
Total ineffectiveness of a specific reinforce immediately following unrestricted access to it.
Satiation
Behaviour that is strengthened and maintained by adventitious reinforcement.
Superstitious behaviour
