Macbeth - Morality

"Stars, hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires"

Structural - Rhyming couplets; harmonious, resembling the eerie warnings of the Witches. This may be the beginning of Macbeth's change - His 'morality's' demise, at the hand of 'desire'

Context - 'Fire': Holy Spirit - Biblical reference

Macbeth

"I Dare do do all that may become a man; who dares to do more is none."

Lingual - Macbeth will be willing to do anything for the classification of himself as a 'man'; evidently fallen under the influence of Lady Macbeth's words.

Context - Patriarchal society of the time period; insulting for a man to be patronised by a woman

Macbeth

"Is this a dagger that I see before me, the handle towards my hand?"

Imagery - The king has been murdered (Treachery) at the hands of Macbeth. Macbeth has surcome to reality, and his hallucinations have driven him to the point of insanity - Reality or not?

Context - Divine Rights of Kings; Kings were just below that of Gods. Killing the king - Treason.

Macbeth

"Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair, and make my seated heart knock at my ribs against the use of nature?"
