What is the difference between null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis?

No hypothesis is that the researchers prediction is not true, and an alternative hypothesis is when difference is true.

What is the charge of protons neutrons and electrons?

Protons are positive, neutrons are neutral, electrons are negative.

How do you find atomic mass?

Add the number of protons and neutrons together.

Compare and contrast covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds?

Covalent: strongest and shares.

Ionic: middle Strongest, Will gain or lose electrons.

Hydrogen bonds: weakest bonds

What information is required in order that you are able to diagram an atom?

Atomic number, protons, neutrons, and electrons.

If the pH of a solution is 4 is it acidic or basic? What does H+ mean?

It is acidic and H = 1*10^-4

If H is .000001 what is the pH?

The pH is 6.

What is the fov, magnification, and resolution?

Fov means field of view, what's your able to see on one slide.

Magnification is how close you are to the organism.

Resolution is how clearly you see it.

Know the magnification of ocular and the four objectives of total magnification. For example scanning, low power, high power, and oil immersion.

Scanning = total of 40 magnification.

Low power = 100 magnification

High Power = 400 magnification.

Oil immersion = 1000 magnification.

How do you calculate cell size?

Cell size equals the diameter of FOV ÷ by the number of cells across the diameter of the FOV.

How do you make a wet mount?

Obtain a slide, cover slip and a toothpick.

Place a drop of water, and placed a specimen in the liquid. If you are working with cells or tissues use suspending solution.

Slowly lower the coverslip on the slide to ensure there's no bubbles.

Discuss the difference between magnification and resolution?

As magnification goes up the field of view goes down.

Difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

Eukaryotic have a true nucleus.

What is unique to animal cells and what is unique to plant cells?

Animal cells can move and have cilia and flagella.

Plant cells have chloroplasts and Central vacuoles.

What are the types of Locomotion in protozoans?

Pseudopodia, cilia, and flagella.

Describe the three different types of bacterial cells?

Circle rod and spiral

What is the difference between sporangiophore and zygospore ?

Zygo is sexual, spore is asexual.

Which substance diffuse more rapidly?

Potassium permanganate diffuse faster than methyl Orange.

The weight of potassium is 158 and orange is 327 what is the relationship between the molecular weight and diffusion?

The substance with the smaller weight diffused faster

What is a relationship with diffusion and temperature?

The higher the temp the faster the fuses, molecules move faster when they are warmed up causing the substance to diffuse faster.

Learn what happens to animal cells in hyper, hypo, and isotonic solution?

In a hyper solution the cells are shriveled up.

In the hypotonic solution the cells are clear and dots.

In an isotonic solution the cells are normal.

Chapter nine quiz

.

What is the glycolysis cycle?

Glycolysis Harvest chemical energy by oxidizing glucose to pyruvate.

Glycolysis breaks down glucose into two molecules of pyruvate.

Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm and has two major phases.

Energy payoff phase.

Energy investment phase.Energy payoff phase.Glycolysis occurs whether or not 02 is present.

Energy payoff phase.Glycolysis occurs whether or not 02 is present.

Glycolysis occurs whether or not 02 is present.

Pyruvate oxid:

After pyruvate is oxidized, the citric acid Cycles completes the energy yielding oxidation of the organic molecules.

Krebs:

Following glycosuria sand citric acid cycle, NADH and FADH2 account for most of the energy extracted from food.

These two electron carriers donate electrons to electron transport chain, which Powers ATP synthesis via oxidative phosphorylation.

Electrons are transferred from NADH or FADH2 to the electron transport chain.

ELECTRONS ARE PASSED THROUGH A NUMBER OF PROTEINS INCLUDING CYTOCHROMES TO O2

The electron transport chain generates no ATP directly.

It breaks down a large free energy drop from food to O2 into smaller steps that release energy in manageable amounts.

Electron transport chain

The energy stored in H+gradient across a membrane couples the Red Ox reactions of the electron transport chain to ATP synthesis.

The H+ gradient is referred to as proton motive Force, emphasizing its capacity to do work.

Make sure you know the reaction of cellular respiration in general?

Cells break down molecules for energy. In order to do this the cell uses oxygen that you breathe in and produce the carbon dioxide that you breathe out.

I will ask you the products of anaerobic respiration as well?

Anaerobic respiration produces and oxygen debt. This amount of oxygen needed to oxidize lactic acid to carbon dioxide and water.
