why are standard tests carried out and where are they recorded?

they are carried out to keep a measure on the equipment and to make sure ant defects are pointed out and rectified.. they are recorded on form 426 and also the intranet Hotwire

what are the 3 points when an item of equipment is defective

1. taking it off the run


2. reporting the defect to the watch manager in charge or IC


3. the defect is sent up on the LFB computer based system called POMS.. purchase order management system.. once done the item is due to be replaced in a set timescale

What is involved in making sure equipment is used safely and having good working knowledge of the equipment?

1. will the equipment do the job


2. can I operate it safely


3. is it safe for those around me


4. will the equipment be damaged


5. is there a set procedure for it's use

after equipment is used it should be returned back to where it came because..

1. prevent the equipment from being damaged


2. prevent the equipment from becoming an obstruction or hazard


3. prevent them from being stolen or getting lost


4. make sure the equipment is avaiable for others

What non brigade equipment can be used?

1. fixed installations in premises such as sprinkler systems or fixed hose reels


2. equipment belonging to works brigades or airport brigades


3. equipment on ships or boats such as fixed pumps, gangways, ships, cranes.


4. cranes and hoists on building sites used to lower staff down shafts or to assist in removing casualties from shaft off site


5. private hydrants on large sites


the decision to use non brigade equipment would normally be taken by an IC.. whoever makes this judgement must do a risk assement first
