What is a chromatid?
Two identical copies of a chromosome that are attached
What is a centromere?
The middle of the chromosome where the two sister chromatids come in tact
How many chromosomes are there in humans?
23
What is a kayrotype?
A chromosome characteristic
How many chromosomes in human gametes?
23
What is the differance between haploid and diploid?
Diploid- full number of chromosomes
Haploid- half number of chromosomes
What is crossing over?
A process that happens during meiosis when two chromosomes pair up and exchange genetic material
What is a monohybrid cross?
A crossbreeding experiment that follows the inheritance of a single characteristic across one or more generations
What is a punnet square?
A chart that shows all possible of gametes in a cross of parents with known genotypes in order to pick the probobility of their offspring
How do you use the monohyrbrid with the punnet square?
You do the monohyrbid then use the punnet square to get a probobility of what the offspring will be
What is Mendels law of segregation?
The Law of Segregation states that when any individual produces gametes, the copies of a gene separate, so that each gamete receives only one copy. A gamete will receive one allele or the other. The direct proof of this was later found when the process of meiosis came to be known. In meiosis the paternal and maternal chromosomes get separated and the alleles with the characters are segregated into two different gametes
What is the differance between heterozygous vs homozygous?
Heterozygous- Individuals with differant genes

Homozygous- Individual with two identical genes
