2. Umbilical cord-A flexible cordlike structure containing blood vessels and attaching a human or other mammalian fetus to the placenta during gestation. I was ignorant about umbilical cord infections or umbilical cord hernia until I had to learn about it during pregnancy.

Meiosis- A type of cell division that results in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, as in the production of gametes and plant spores. I have heard a lot about mitosis but not enough about meiosis.
5. Heterozygous-having dissimilar pairs of genes for any hereditary characteristic.Heterozygosity occurs when an individual has two different alleles of a gene. I've never heard of this word before. It's nice to learn about allele's as well.
6. Carrier-A carrier is a person who has a change in one copy of a gene. I had always heard the word "carrier" because of friends with the sickle cell anemia
