What is the first response in an emergency? |
- Immediately report the incident to train controller, nearest signaller or call 000. - Provide critical incident information to the Senior Train Control Officer. - Ensure passenger/crew safety and keep them informed of the situation. - Confer with Senior Train Control Officer about the protection required for the train and the incident site. - Ensure First Aid assistance is provided to any injured persons by notifying Emergency Services via Train Control ASAP - Manage the incident, including preservation of evidence. |

What information must be given to police at the scene of a level crossing accident? |
- full name, address, grade, departmental number - date of birth - length of service, including driving service - direction of travel of train - direction of travel of road vehicle - name and address of any known witness - warning devices operating or not operating at railway crossing |

What information should the driver note for inclusion in written reports? |

Where possible the train must be brought to a stand to avoid hitting the livestock and that the use of the emergency brake may be required. If livestock is hit by a train, the driver must stop to inspect the loco and train for damage. * In particular the air brake equipment. |

- presence of livestock on or near line - exact location - number and general description of animals/persons - if the train collides with the stock - damage to the train - delay that may be caused |

- driver to make emergency application - whistle & headlight to alert persons - train to be secured & train controller notified NOTE: There is no obligation to provide first aid to any non-passengers. - press emergency call button to speak to train controller - ascertain seriousness of situation - if necessary ask train controller to arrange ambulance or doctor - site controller to record any passenger that is removed - train must not be removed until ambulance or police have attended and authority given - driver not to leave the scene - blood alcohol & drug testing required (can occur up to 3hours after incident) - record-time, location, speed, whistle, brake application, headlight low or high, info to train controller, crew actions |

Driver to make an equalising brake application and release before departure to ensure there are no sticking brakes. |

If urgent, contact Centrol and request police presence. In extreme emergencies call 000. When an offence has occurred during a shift, train drivers are to complete a ‘Security Incident Reporting Form’ and submit to workforce controller. |
