Sampling error
|
The difference between the results of random samples taken at the same time. The polling margin of error is found by doing the same poll twice but with different population and subtracting the difference.

|
Process by which background traits influence one's political views. Most kids share their parent's political beliefs. As people get older they develop firmer views. Young people don't vote as much. Asian Americans are mostly conservative. Hispanics an African Americans are usually liberal.

A more or less consistent set of beliefs about what policies government ought to pursue. A typology helps find people's political ideologies. Measured by seeing how frequently people use broad political categories like liberal or conservative to describe their own views. And seeing what extent the policy preferences of a citizen are consistent over time or are based at any one time.

Gender gap
|
Difference in political views between men and women. Women are usually liberal, whereas men usually are more conservative. Women in 2006 are concerned with healthcare economy, Iraq war, S.S. + women's equality

Persons with a disproportionate share of political power. In soviet Russa they were called "nomenklatura" The political elite can be the rich, the educated, prestige, political power, or any other valued resource

Was an inaccurate newspaper headline on the front page of the Chicago Tribune stating Dewey defeating Truman in the election of 1948.
* took information when some states didn't finish voting Said Dewey was going to win but Truman ended up winning. * california swung oppositie in the end * stopped polling too soon (the problem with the poll) Stopping polling a week before the election even though new issues popped up. Didn't take into account undecided voters. |

is an economic and sociological combined total measure of a person's work experience and of an individual's or family’s economic and social position in relation to others, based on income, education, and occupation.
Upper class are usually more active in politics are elites, activists, elected officials Lower Class is provided the votes don't participate (activism or elected) Middle class vote and are more educated on the issues |
