What are contractions |
The tightening and releasing of the muscles of the uterus, this is a sign labor is ready to begin. Pushed fetus against the cervix. |

When is labor considered premature; warning signs? |
Fetus been in womb for less than 37 weeks. Warnings signs include having contractions every 10 minutes, dull backache, leaking fluid. |

False labor |
Contractions are irregular and not rhythmic. They don't become stronger over time and end with light exercise like walking |

3 stages of labor |
First: contractions open cervix, 6-18 hours Second: baby is born, 1-2 hours Third: placenta delivered, 10-30 mins |

Baby enters cervix feet of butt down, cannot be delivered this way. Emergency c section |

Allows tissue to stretch, moving pelvic bones apart |

Surgical cut by doctor to widen the area the baby will be coming out of. Done when it is too small for baby to fit through |

They are cells capable of producing all blood types. Important because they can be used to treat serious blood related illness in baby or other family members. |

When baby is delivered through surgical incision I the mother's abdomen. Necessary when baby can't go through birth canal |

Factors increasing premature birth? |
Those who may be carrying more than one baby, medical complications, and those younger in age i.e. teenage moms |

Why does a premature baby need an incubator |
Keeps them in controlled area. It's specially included crib, the oxygen temperature and humidity are all closely controlled. Baby cannot do these things on its own |

Fontanels, new born appearance |
Open spaces on babys head where the bones are not yet joined. Usually located above forehead, may give baby a cone shaped appearance after birth |

Head bigger than rest of body? |
Because brain is big and almost full grown while other body parts take longer to grow |

Lanugo, what happens to it? |
Done downy hair growing on their foreheads backs and shoulders. It will soon disappear |
