AC power is provided by?

2 IDG's

APU generator

External power

How does the system get DC power?

2 TRU's (transformer rectifier units) convert AC power to DC.

EXT Power Avail:

Light

External power is plugged in, and all parameters are met for external power to power the aircraft.

IDG Drive:

Light

High oil temp

Low oil pressure

Gen Control Off:

Light

Generator control breaker is open.

If APU is supplying power & another source such as external power is connected, what happens?

The other source has priority, and the APU will not power the buses.

If the APU comes on line while one IDG is operating, how is the power distributed?

The operating engine gen bus tie opens isolating the engine gen. The APU supplies the other side.

APU Gen:

Light

APU is operating & the APU generator control breaker is open due to a fault - or - APU gen is selected off.

Bus Off:

Light

Illuminates when the respective AC bus is unpowered.

Main bus powering priority?

IDG

APU gen

Opposite IDG

What does the ground handling bus do?

Powers components that are only necessary during ground operations.

How is the ground handling bus powered?

It can be powered by the APU gen, or external power

If external power is connected, but not selected on, the ground handling bus will be powered.

What does the ground service bus do?

It is powered on the ground, or in flight. It powers both battery chargers plus other cabin and system loads.

How is the ground service bus powered?

Powered from the right main AC bus.

Can be powered by the APU gen, or external power.

What do the Utility, and galley buses power?

Ovens

Hot plates

Coffee makers

Galley lighting

How are the utility buses powered, and controlled?

They are powered by their respective buses, and controlled by the utility bus switches.

What else does do the utility bus switches control?

Galley buses.

Utility Bus Off:

Light

Utility, and galley buses are unpowered.

How can the galley buses be reset?

By recycling the utility bus switches.

What is the purpose of the bus tie breakers?

They ensure that no bus is powered by more than 1 source.

Bus Tie ISLN:

Light

Bus tie is isolated, or bus tie breaker is open due to a fault.

When does load shedding occur?

When the electrical system detects loads that exceed the power available.

Load shedding occurs in what sequence?

Galley buses

Utility buses

Individual items powered by the main AC bus

When do utility buses shed?

When a single source is powering the system.

What will shed when external power, or the APU are the only source of power?

C HYD 2 pump

During first engine start, which buses automatically shed?

The utility, and galley buses.

When will reset when?

When the generator breaker closes, or the start selector switch trips from GND to AUTO.

During the 2nd engine start, does anything shed?

The utility, and galley buses on the respective side.

How many batteries are on the 767?

There are 2, a main battery, and APU battery.

Where are the batteries located?

Main battery is in the FWD equipment bay.

APU battery is in the AFT equipment bay.

Main, and APU batteries are paralleled to provide standby power of what duration?

90 minutes.

Both the main, and APU batteries power which bus/buses?

Hot battery bus.

The hot battery bus powers what?

Fire extinguisher bottles

Fuel shutoff valves

Clocks

RAT manual deployment

Parking brake valve

When is the battery bus powered?

It is powered at all times unless the battery is the only source of power, and battery switch is off.

Main Batt DISCH:

Light

Illuminates when the main battery is supplying power to a DC bus, and the bus is not being charged.

Batt Off:

Light

Illuminates if the battery switch is off after electrical power is established.

What else happens when AC power is supplied to the GND service bus?

Both battery chargers operate.

Which bus does the main battery charger supply power to, and why?

Hot battery bus in order to prevent depletion of the main battery.

If the aircraft has no AC power, and the battery switch is selected on, the main and APU batteries will power which buses?

Hot battery bus

Battery bus

Standby buses

If the Battery switch is selected off once AC power is available, what happens with the hot battery bus?

The hot battery bus is isolated from the rest of the system.

The BATT/STBY system can supply DC & AC power to critical systems in the event of a loss of normal DC & AC power. The system uses battery power to supply which buses?

Hot battery bus

Battery bus

Standby DC bus

Standby AC bus

What is used to convert DC power to AC power with the standby system?

1 static inverter.

STBY Power Selector:

Off

Standby buses are not powered.

STBY Power Selector:

Auto

If AC power is lost, standby buses are powered by battery power.

STBY Power Selector:

Batt

Standby buses are powered by main & APU batteries. Battery charger is no longer charging the battery.

STBY Power Bus Off:

Light

Illuminates when either the AC or DC standby bus is not powered.

During autoland, the power source for the center buses will transfer to the inverter & hot battery bus when?

One AP is engaged

Other 2 AP's are armed

At least 2 generators are operating

The CA & FO flight instrument transfer buses supply power to what?

ADI/HSI

Altimeter/Radar altimeter

VSI/ASI/ILS

Inst panel lights

EFIS control panel

L,R, and C symbol gens

What does the HDG (Hydraulic driven generator) do?

It operates in the event of a loss of both main AC buses. After a short time delay, power from the battery bus drives the HDG shutoff valve to open. Center hydraulic pressure then powers the HDG.

The HDG provides AC power to?

L & R AC transfer bus

Standby AC bus

CA flight instrument bus

The HDG provides DC power to?

Hot battery bus

Battery bus

Standby DC bus
