What pumps do the left and right systems have?

Engine driven, and electric demand pumps.

What pumps does the center system have?

2 electric pumps, 1 air driven pump, and the RAT

What is significant about the left electric pump on the ground?

It's inhibited during engine start.

What is the main function of the left system?

Flight controls

What is the main function of the right system?

Flight controls, normal brakes, Pitch enhancement system

What is the main function of the center system?

Flight controls, nosewheel steering, landing gear, flaps/slats, Alt & RSV brakes, tailskid, Hydraulic driven generator (HDG)

How is hydraulic fluid cooled?

Fuel tank heat exchangers

How do center pumps maintain system pressure?

Standpipe system

What is available in the center system if the fluid drops below standpipe level?

Small amount of fluid for reserve brakes.

What is the indication if any respected system fluid level is full?

1.00 is displayed on EICAS status page.

What if fluid quantity is .75 or less?

RF is displayed on the status page.

What is displayed is the fluid quantity is .50 or less?

QTY Light illuminates on the HYD Panel, and EICAS Message HYD QTY dispays.

What is the purpose of the electric demand pumps?

Primary pump failure, or low pump pressure.

Electric demand pump switch - ON

Pump operates continuously.

Electris demand pump switch - AUTO

Pump operates when primary pump pressure is low.

What does the Air Demand Pump (ADP) do?

Provides backup pressure for the center HYD system.

What does the Hydraulic Driven Gen (HDG) do?

Operates automatically when power is lost to both main AC busses.

What system powers the HDG?

Center

What does the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) do?

Provides hydraulic power to the flight control portion of the center system.

How is the RAT deployed?

Can be deployed manually, or automatically when both engine N2 speeds drop below 50%

Deployment powered by hot battery bus

What does the Pitch Enhancement System (PES) do?

Automatically supplies power to the stabilizer trim control system in the event of a L&C failure. The PES uses R system pressure to power a Power Transfer Unit (PTU).

HYD CONTROL PANEL

SYS Press Light

Low pressure in the associated system.

HYD CONTROL PANEL

RSVR Light

Less than 50% quantity in the associated reservoir.

Low air pressure in the associated reservoir.

HYD CONTROL PANEL

OVHT Light

Overheat in the associated hydraulic pump case drain cooling.

How is the Landing Gear held up?

Mechanical uplocks.

Can the gear be selected up while on the ground?

No, due to the lever lock system.

How does the alternate gear extension work?

A DC motor releases the gear uplocks allowing the gear to freefall into the down, and locked position.

When do you get the Landing Config warning?

Gear is not down and locked:

While flaps are in the landing position, or

any thrust lever is at idle below 800 RA.

Nosewheel steering is available up to?

65 degrees in either direction.

Rudder pedal steering is available up to?

7 degrees in either direction.

Normal brakes are powered by what HYD system?

Right HYD system.

Alternate brakes are powered by what system?

Center HYD system.

How does the alternate brake system work?

It automatically engages in the event of a loss of right HYD system pressure.

How does the reserve brake system work?

It is manually selected. Uses fluid below the center standpipe to power the center number one electric primary pump.

How does the accumulator brake system work?

Accumulator pressure provides several braking applications in the event of a failure of normal, alternate, and reserve brakes.

With reserve brakes selected, what else do you have?

Parking brake, and anti-skid operate normally.

Brake Source:

Light

Illuminates when both normal, and alternate brake system pressures are low.

Extinguishes if RSV brakes are selected, and HYD pressure is available.

If it doesn't extinguish, accumulator pressure is the only source available.

How are brake temps displayed?

Boxed numerical values on the EICAS STATUS page.

Range is 0-9 with 5-9 being the high range.

Brake Temp:

Light

Brake temp value 5 or higher.

Is anti-skid available with alternate and reserve brakes?

Yes, but only in pairs.

When are auto brakes available?

Only with normal brakes.

How can you disarm auto brakes?

Applying pedal brakes

Advancing either thrust lever

Moving the speed brake lever forward

Selecting disarm

If RTO is available, when will it activate?

Groundspeed above 85 knots

Both thrust levers retarded to idle

Parking Brake:

Light

Brake it set
