Role |
Both the Army and RNZN use the M2HB QCB with Army having master depot status for this equipment. This weapon is used as a mounted direct fire support weapon (DFSW) to provide effective engagement of soft skin vehicles and point targets to a maximum range of 2000 meters. |
|
Characteristics pt1 |
The M2HB QCB machine gun is recoil operated, air cooled, belt fed, heavy machine gun. The weapon can be fed from either the left or right hand side. It is capable of both semi-automatic and automatic fire. The weapon differs from the earlier M2HB in that it has a stellite lined QCB (quick change barrel). This increases the barrel life and enables the barrel to be changed without the need to re-headspace the gun. |
|
Characteristics pt2 |
The M2HB QCB is capable of firing a variety of ammunition types. Terminal effect can be varied by the use of different types of ammunition. The weapon is fitted with an iron sight graduated out to 2500m, however, accurate firing beyond tracer burnout (1100m) using this sight is poor. Accuracy can be enhanced using a relfex sight, PEQ2 infrared illuminator or a sight holographic which are all part of the sight kit HMG DFSW. |
