Suits against state

The Eleventh Amendment, or Amendment XI of the United States Constitution is an Amendment that talks about the sovereign immunity. The Eleventh Amendment was the first Amendment to the United States Constitution after the Bill of Rights. It was put into the Constitution on February 7, 1795.

Requires separate Electoral ballots for President and VIce President

The twelfth amendment, or Amendment Approved by Congress on December 9, 1803, and ratified by the states on June 15, 1804, modifies the way the Electoral College chooses the president and vice president.

Abolished slavery

the 13th amendment was the primary piece of legislation that permanently ended the institution of slavery in the United States.

Grants citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States"; it forbids any state to deny any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of its laws."

Addresses citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws, and was proposed in response to issues related to former slaves following the American Civil War.

No denying Right to Vote--- Race, Color, Servitude

Granted African American men the right to vote by declaring that the "right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude."

Congress can tax income directly

Gives Congress the power to collect taxes on income without apportioning it among the states.

Popular Election of Senators

There will be 2 Senators per state. Senators are to be elected by the people in their own state rather than appointed and their terms will last 6 years. If a vacancy should arise, the state will have to fill the vacancy.

Prohibition of alcohol

Established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States by declaring illegal the production, transport and sale of alcohol (though not the consumption or private possession).

Cannot be deprived the right to vote based on sex

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Sets the terms of President and Vice President (Jan 20), and Congress (Jan 3).

It lays down the rules for the beginnings and endings of elected officials' terms.

Repeal of 18th Amendment

The only thing the 21st Amendment does is repeal the 18th Amendment, which was Prohibition. Under the 18th Amendment, the sale, production, or possession of alcohol was made illegal. The 21st amendment made alcohol a legal product again.

Presidential Tenure; No President may serve more than 2 elected terms

Sets a term limit for election to the office of President of the United States.

Appointment of presidential electors representing Washington, D.C.

Extends the right to vote in the presidential election to citizens residing in the District of Columbia by granting the District electors in the Electoral College, as if it were a state.

Prohibited the use of poll taxes to abridge voting rolls

Abolished the poll tax for all federal elections. A poll tax was a tax of anywhere from one to a few dollars that had to be paid annually by each voter in order to be able to cast a vote. Poll Tax Receipt.

Presidential Succession; Vice Presidential Vacancy; Presidential Inability

Deals with succession to the Presidency and establishes procedures both for filling a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, as well as responding to Presidential disabilities.

Cannot be denied the right to vote because of your age if your at least 18

SECTION 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age. SECTION 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Prevents any law that changes the salaries of Senators and Representatives from taking effect until the next election occurs

Prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives.
