Over the course of time and through perseverance women broke out of that mold. They have earned the right to vote, and be more than just secretaries in the business world. There are still issues that need to be resolved to give complete equal rights, but every day I see it getting closer.
• What is the status of women in the U.S. today?
Women in the United States today have the same rights as men, and other races. Women are still scrutinized, and not given full equality to men. In some instances they are paid less for doing the same job, and our subject to sexual harassment. Women are dominant athletes, politicians, and corporate executives.
• What are some examples of concepts or constructions of masculinity and femininity that you see in society and in media?
I think there are many concepts that define masculinity and femininity however the two that stick out to me the most are strength and nurturing. Men through the media are seen as strong and brave, where as women are seen as helpless and caring. I think the media influences society, so what is seen in the media will slowly become part of
