There are many aspects of art, literature, dance, science, etc. that have gotten society to where it is today. We have come from the days where owning a slave was normal, to serving prison time for treating someone unequally. Art has influenced our society ever since the past began being recorded. Cave paintings have been found all over the world. These findings prove people felt the need to express themselves in ways other than words. As far back as ancient times, the motivation for artists to create art is unknown (Janaro 118). However, we do find traces and patterns of imitation, and artists during anytime and age imitating their surroundings in their art (Janaro 118). Past and present issues can be combined into one to show that things really haven’t changed that much. Yes, the most popular forms of art have clearly changed. In the past artists were seen as one of the brightest human beings alive. Now, of course, some look at artists as poor men or women on the street, or people corrupted. Art is not just paintings. Art is an individual way of expressing oneself. Art is dance, music, sculptures, poems, plays. The process of applying makeup is even considered an art if you are broad minded. The appliers are called makeup ‘”artists’’. Not everyone can apply makeup flawlessly (Fields). Therefore, a makeup artist stands out from the crowd. They express themselves with their brushes, instead of a violin. This is how far the recognition of individual art has come. This is what fascinates me so much about the whole idea of art. It gives everyone an individual way to express their thoughts. It gives us a chance to show the world how we really feel, but in a unique way. I could not imagine living somewhere where art was looked down upon. American is an amazing place because its citizens are allowed to present, admire, appreciate, art in any way they please. Art has come a long way. The advances in art through the years have made us able to use art as a tool. Art is even being used as a form of therapy to others.
