World War II, the War that helped shape American lives to what it is today. World War II known as the Second World War that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The war was fought between Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, Japan) and the Allies (Britain, France, The Soviet Union, United States). The Second War took place all over the globe but most combat action took place in Europe, East Asia, and in islands in the Pacific Ocean. The United States entered the war December 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed the American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. WWII affected American lives and continued to shape lives in the 21st century by increasing the role of women in the workforce, generating entertain media, and uniting the American people at home to support the war effort. In World War I women gender roles were to prepare men for the war but then World War II women were able to join in the armed forces. During World War II 350,000 women served in the U.S in the armed forces, both at home and abroad. In the success of women being part of the World I, World War II the gender roles evolved to women to work in clerical jobs for example repaired airplanes, worked as laboratory technicians, or rigged parachutes.1940 to 1945 the percentage of women in the U.S workforce increased to 27% to 37%, and by 1945 nearly one out of four married women worked outside the home.
