World War II was a destructive war that affected millions of people all around the world. The war that will be remembered all throughout history first began when Germany had invaded Poland on the first of September. Poland’s invasion caused both Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany. Then, on the tenth of June in 1941, Italy joined the war as well, and then invaded France eleven days later. The Soviet Union was attacked by Nazi Germany, and Stalin was left with no real choice other than to join the Allies, despite having attacked Poland along with Germany. In Japan, the war was extremely beneficial to the economy. “Between 1937 and 1945, during the war years, Japanese economy received rapid development. Production indices showed increases of 24 percent in manufacturing, 46 percent in steel, 70 percent in nonferrous metals, and 252 percent in machinery.” (Japanese economic takeoff after 1945) Japan’s economy was prospering, but after the United States dropped the atomic bombs, the results were devastating. Japan went through a food shortage and many important cities, like Tokyo and Hiroshima, were bombed. These bombings were what forced Japan to surrender, thus ending World War II. After the war had ended, the United States helped Japan recover from the war. General McArthur oversaw the rebuilding of Japan, and he was sent as the Supreme Command of the Allied Forces. Japan had its military disbanded and factories that made weapons were closed Then, all of the government officials and military leaders who had taken part in the bombing of Pearl Harbor were taken to court and received their punishments.
