Woolworths Limited was established in 1924 by Percy Christmas, Stanley Chatterton, Cecil Scott Waine, George Creed, and Ernest Williams. The headquarters of this company is in Bella Vista, New South Wales, Australia. Woolworths Limited is a major Australian company with retail interest throughout Australia and New Zealand. Woolworths Limited is involved in many divisions such as supermarket, liquor, hotels, petrol, general merchandise, everyday services and home improvement. Woolworths Limited has more than 9 subsidiaries under the parent organization. The subsidiaries include, Woolworths Supermarkets, Masters Home Improvement,
BIG W, BWS, Dan Murphy’s, Caltex Woolworths, Progressive Enterprises, EziBuy, FreshChoice and others.

When a company engages in CSR activities that involve the employees, the employees will feel satisfied and proud as they are contributing to the community as well. Companies that are involved in CSR have shown to improve staff morale, increase staff productivity and reduce absenteeism. The employees will feel proud of the company they are working for, Employees that are proud and comfortable with the company are less likely to resign to look for a job elsewhere. A socially responsible company will receive more job applications as their company is favoured by the future employees. With an increased number of applications, the company can filter the applications and chose high calibre staffs. Studies have shown that a robust CSR framework can also help a company to become more attractive to potential future employees who are looking for workplaces with socially responsible practices, community mindedness and sound ethics. For example, Woolworths Limited’s ‘Indigenous Pre-Employment Program’ provides training for members of the Indigenous community before they get employed. After the training the trainees will apply for a job in Woolworths’s Limited. So far Woolworths has employed 1,953 indigenous employees. Woolworths Limited is a favoured company among the other companies because Woolworths emphasizes on the equality of all employees, there is no place for gender, racial and age discrimination in Woolworths Limited, equal opportunities are given to all the employees.
