“A woman is human. She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more responsible than a man. Likewise, she is never less. Equality is a given. A woman is human.” The Odyssey had some strong Greek values shown throughout the book, and Big Media changes its view of what’s right and what’s wrong over time when new trends develop. Big Media now emphasizes drastically different values then the Odyssey, such as heroism. However, they both have the same values at the same time, like objectifying women.
There was a lot of gender inequality in Homer’s Odyssey. Not just in ancient Greece, but everywhere for that matter. However, that has changed over time, and people are working on making women as equal as men. The Odyssey book nine, “how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes’ son. whose home’s on Ithaca!’ Here you can see that Odysseus uses a smart tactic to escape the land of cyclops, and then taunts cyclops about it afterwards, this on Odysseus and his crew’s part is OK, but is someone who uses other’s tragedies to make things easier for them really considered a hero? Definitely not anymore. That kind of behavior probably wouldn’t earn any credit now in the era of long legs and thin waists. Heroes now are more of people that do small things to make somebody’s day better. I found 10 incredible acts of heroism by ordinary people, here is one of them, “Just as she was about to go under, a similarly heroic fellow beachgoer pulled them to safety, A man Perzioso contents is the true hero.” For the most part, legendary heroes are nothing but halloween costumes
