Are we all equal in society? Are we treating everyone with dignity and respect? Then why women in South Asian society are still neglected and subjected to oppression predominantly by the men, and aren’t considered as equal as others? However, many of us believe in women rights, but do they really exist in our society? Women rights around the world are an important indicator to understand global well-being. However, in South Asian countries, social development and economic development are severely affected due to the lack of women’s rights, found in the practice of gender discrimination, domestic violence and the dowry system.

Firstly, due to the son preference many parents of the babies potentially abort the female in their mother’s womb. For instance, female infanticide is typically performed in some part of India amongst some classes. Therefore, daughters logically suffer in order to perceived and fulfill their families and cultural mandated needs. However, women ratio is 0.94 which is comparatively lower than men. Women babies’ abortion have impacted to balance both the sex ratio which created a problem of rape and forceful attempt of sex desire. As a result, women are often targeted by men for rape, due to shortage of women for marriage (Croll pg.1). Secondly, ban on women education and activism is the fundamental problem in Afghanistan, women are only utilized as a domestic helpers in family for the household works and are not allowed to pursue education. According to Taliban’s radical fundamentalist form of sharia Islamic rule, women education is forbidden (Tomescu, Madalina and Liliana pg. 5). Due to which, Afghanistan have an estimated 64% women illiteracy rate which is the world highest (Afghanistan:Education).
