On the night of January 7, 1946, Suzanne was kidnapped from her bedroom. After her parents were unable to find her, they called 911. Police went to the crime scene and found no type of evidence, except a ransom note, that was left behind by the offender, requesting twenty thousand dollars and ordering them not to call the police or the FBI. After an anonymous call was made to the police station, police found Suzanne’s body dismembered, on the north side of Chicago. At every parole hearing, Suzanne’s parents attended to make sure he wouldn’t be released; which he was not. He was the first man to serve the longest prison time in Chicago history. He was sent to Stateville Prison in Joliet, IL, where he became the first prisoner to receive a bachelor’s degree, in prison. He also helped other inmates get their GED. In 1998, per his request, he was sent to Dixon Correctional Center, a minimum security prison, in Dixon, IL. His parents and brother changed their last name to Hill, to have no connection with him.
