In the article Why Should We Keep Tribal Languages Alive?, Sonny Skyhawk looks to explain why it is important to retain Indian tribal languages. In his article, he also gives reasons as to why he thinks Indians are the ones currently at fault for the loss of the languages. Skyhawk uses methods of persuasion that mainly follow the pattern of Pathos-an appeal to emotion- and Logos-an appeal to logic-in his article. His arguments to back up these statements are based around how the current Indian community has not made enough of an effort to practice and pass down the native languages. “Our languages can teach us many things through daily use. Now is the crucial time to protect and embrace your mother('s) tongue.” Ultimately speaking, Skyhawk was able to smoothly weave in appeals of Pathos and Logos, both forms helping to bring about the reasoning in his opinions. Logos was able to use logic to show the reasoning in his arguments, while Pathos left room to insert himself into the reader’s and Native American’s heart in order to persuade with emotion. “When it comes to native languages, the situation is simple: Use it or lose it.” A final use of logos in the form of a simple statement is left to summarize Skyhawk’s views on the topic and essentially end the
