In the US, racism is more of a historical issue compared to other social issues, which making it becomes less important than others. Though we can still read a racial report from our news media every day, more social problems occur besides racism. In “Why it’s OK to Ignore Phil Robertson’s Racism,” John McWhorter doesn’t really ignore Robertson’s racial claim, instead he compared racism with sexuality that “discrimination against gay people is more overt in modern America than against black people.” Moreover, McWhorter emphasizes the seriousness of sexuality that “But there’s a difference between (racism) and ongoing, open comparison of gay people to animals, designating their sexuality as a sinful departure from basic human dignity, and families …show more content…
He was the member of the House of Representatives from New York, and had served that position for more than ten years. However, instead of praising his successful career as a congressman, we should emphasize on some of his ridiculous actions: he is a recidivist of numerous scandals of sexting. For example, “June 6, 2011 – Weiner holds a tearful press conference and admits to taking and posting the photo and engaging in “inappropriate communication” with women. ‘To be clear, I am deeply regretting what I have done and I am not resigning,’ Weiner said.” “July 25, 2013 – Weiner admits he sent explicit texts under the alias “Carlos Danger” to as many as 10 women, including three after he left Congress in 2011. They include Sydney Leathers, 23, of Princeton, Ind., who said Weiner had sent nude photographs to her – and that they engaged in phone sex— months after his resignation”(Penzenstadler, 2016). And the most recent one which can lead to a felony that “(he) carried on a months-long online sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl during which she claims he asked her to dress up in 'school-girl ' outfits for him on a video messaging application and pressed her to engage in 'rape fantasies '.”(Goodman, 2016) As his sexting messages were publicized, his reputation severely ruined, forcing him to resign as a congressman and fail from being the Mayor of New York City from two continuous elections. In current condition, Weiner is under the investigation of the FBI, and he hardly escapes from juvenile due to violating the anti-child pornography
