Racism in the 1900s was a very sad and terrible thing for African Americans of all ages. They were thought to be less than everyone else and they were treated as if it was a gift to be near a white person. This just shows how from the 1900s to now we have changed, even 20 years ago people never thought an African American could be elected as president of the United States. Another thing that shows how the U.S has become less racist is the rising popularity of “gangster rap”, artist like ice cube, eazy-e, and doctor dre all helped the progress of rap come to where it is now. In the 1960s rap was considered disrespectful and disruptive but through the struggles of those rappers it has become one of the biggest and most mainstream types of music and is listened to all around the world (Neal, 1). “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” was one example of black pop icons in the 1900s. The progress of racism in the U.S has grown immensely in the past 80 years. African Americans have more opportunities in life than someone from 25 years ago could even imagine, when in the 1900s all the were was a nuisance to the white people of America.
