Growing a family seems to have less to do with if it is affordable but rather when it is affordable. Statistically, the majority of individuals become parents. There exists an innate desire to parent. Postponement occurs but rarely do people forego it completely even if it means selling items or going into debt. My parents are not wealthy. Additionally, they are careful with their money. I don't know if they conducted a detailed cost-benefit analysis prior to making the decision to adopt or tallied up how many utils of happiness they expected to receive but I know they gave it very careful consideration.
