Violence by definition is a behavior that involves physical force intended to damage, kill, or hurt someone or something. Scary, yet true, violence, including youth violence is around us. Murder is the second leading cause of death of youth 15-25 year olds. Although we may not realize it, violence has an impact on everyone’s life.
Youth violence can be triggered by many means including the media, insufficient parental supervision, and substance abuse. The media is a serious cause of youth violence. The media is anything we hear or see on radios, mobile devices, or televisions. Many times youth view things in the media that cause them to commit acts of violence. Video games with explicitly violent material can take over someone’s mind, especially a juvenile's. Many popular video games have lead to violent acts among children, including homicides. Another cause of youth violence is insufficient parental supervision. Children whose parents are not actively involved in their lives are prone to aggressive behavior.
