Media 's negative affect on teens

The average teen in the US are suffering from some sort of emotional suffering caused by the media. Some people think the media affect the teens by making positive images and videos and even magazines. Media shows teaches them positive life lessons like how to deal with everyday problems , or show what 's the new trend to stay up to date, positive views on love and sexuality, even positive ways to deal with bullying and keep it nonviolent. We couldn 't have men more wrong,what the media is actually doing is feeding teens from all over massive amounts of negativity. The mainstream mass media (television, magazines, movies, music, and the Internet) provide increasingly frequent portrayals of sexuality(tandfonline.com). Media shows teens negative images and videos about love, sex, and relationships. studies suggest that the media do have an impact because the media keep sexual behavior on public and personal agendas, media portrayals reinforce a relatively consistent set of sexual and relationship norms, and the media rarely depict sexually responsible model(tandfonline.com) Teens mostly get the way they treat their girlfriends just like other men from tv shows they have seen or music they have heard on the radio. They think the way they treat their girls is ok because they are famous and the got that way by treating girls that way and making songs about it. While the causes of youth violence are multifactorial and include such variables as poverty, family psychopathology, child abuse, exposure to domestic and community violence, substance abuse and other psychiatric disorders, the research literature is quite compelling that children 's exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent behavior (aacap.org). In most music today especially rap and heavy metal most of the lyrics contain references to violence, sex, and/or drugs. While many argue that this is dangerous for children to hear we know that a modern day teenager often faces violence, drugs, suicide, pregnancy, and other aspects of this music (rense.com).
