2. Throughout the movie, Nell learns that daylight is not dangerous and that it is safe to go beyond her house during the daytime. She also learns that not all men are evil. Her mother drilled that image of men being evil creatures into her head due to her past, and very unfortunate, experiences with men. Some of the ethical issues in this movie include the scene were the courts and Dr.Paula were trying to decided whether is was acceptable, or not, to take someone out of their environment that they are comfortable in by force? At first, Dr. Paula was all for institutionalizing Nell, but by the end of the movie, her views on what was right for Nell had completely changed. Also this movie portrays the highly common issues of people preying on weaker individuals. For example, Dr. Paula thought the that the best place for Nell to live out the rest of her life would be in an institutionalized setting, the guys at the bar who were persuaded Nell to show her breast, and the news reporter who walked into Nell’s house unannounced and completely startled her. However, the most significant and unethical moment in the movie had to be when Dr.Paula had Dr. Jerry began to hold Nell down against her will to take a blood sample from her.
