As one may think that the narrator is insane because he doesn’t know what he is doing is wrong. Usually when someone killed a man they are not at the scene after it happened. They leave and then the police come to the scene and investigate. But, the narrator stayed at the scene because he thought nothing wrong has been done because if you stay it’s like everything is fine and normal. “My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears: but still they sat and still chatted. The ringing became more distinct: --It continued and became more distinct”. (18) He said that his head was aching and that his ears were ringing, but he later states, “-It is the beating of his hideous heart!"(21), it was not his ears ringing (that he thought) it was the heart of the old man. That makes no sense though because he is dead and that is not possible. His emotions are telling him wrong things and he is thinking insanely. That is a very plausible argument for his insanity.
It may be that his actions have logical reasons. When he talks about the eye he once said “It haunted me day and night…He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold” Whenever he looked at the old man’s eye he felt haunted and it bothered him a lot. He felt that it was mocking him or just getting on his nerves. If something is haunting you or anyone it would make sense to kill it. Some people would agree with him being sane and this shows a reason that he could be
