What’s my name? Women are usually underestimated and seem inferior to men, especially back in the 1920s. For instance, in the novel Of Mice and Men, Curley's wife is called offensive names and rumors spread about her all the time. Not only that, but her husband, Curley, treats her like she is his property. She is not supposed to leave the house, or talk to the men on the ranch. The men in that ranch do not treat her like a regular human being either. They do not treat her with respect and, the worst part, is that they do not know a single thing about her. This shows that no one cares to know or even find out what her actual name is. Not only does Curly treat his wife like she is his property, but everyone on the ranch calls her Curly’s wife, which therefore indicates that everyone else considers her to be his property. Also, this is why the men on the ranch feel uncomfortable and try to block her out when she tries to talk to them. This is also why she yells at Lennie, Candy, and Crooks. She is angry and frustrated with everybody and is confused on why everyone mistreats her. The men do not think of her as a regular, proper woman. They think of her as a whore and it is very inequitable for them to think of her like this. She is just a lonely and innocent woman that is just trying to make some friends because she is bored with her life. Moreover, the men on the ranch call her insulting names such as a rat trap, tramp, bitch, poison, and much more. They view her as a nasty women with no class, although they do not know anything about her. She is demanded to stay home all day and wait for a ruthless, and abusive husband to come home and she is probably just sick of it, so she tries to wander around and talk to the men on the ranch. She is not trying to be annoying, but they misjudge her based on all of the rumors spread about her.
