ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) refers to the automation and the integration of the core business of a company to assist it in focusing on effectiveness and success. Its business software is designed and used to record and manage the enterprise data of a corporation. The software integrates various core processes in business such as taking orders from customers, keeping financial data, making inventory records and scheduling operations. Due to its importance in ensuring significant improvements in realizing effectiveness by organizations there is a need to ensure that the best practices are exercised to ensure the benefits are met. It’s important to understand that with the wide-range of functions ERP systems serve, there are many different types of EPR implementations. The choice that is settled for should be well thought through. The business can decide to implement a custom system and program it to suit the company, though making modifications can be very costly. The business can also decide to purchase a standard system and install it on the company’s computer servers. Due to the pain experienced during installation some companies may avoid updating their software to avoid losing some important integrations and customizations. The business should strive to keep their EPR software up to date to maximize the potential benefits of the technology. The company should have well-defined requirements, established measurements and well-built business plans of the expected benefits from the implementation of ERP. ERP is very important in businesses, and its implementation should be carefully considered. ERP implementation has various benefits that all point to effectiveness and success of business operations. ERP focuses on the core operations of the business. When implementing ERP the company should be ready for complications, ensure proper management and understand the operations of the software.
The best practices to consider in ERP implementation are selecting the best ERP plan for the business and focusing on early planning. Also to be considered is the understanding of business processes and important requirements together with proper management and commitment of resources.
