No matter where one is from, what one’s gender is, what one’s intelligence is, anything and everything. Everyone faces adversity; sexism, racism, homophobia, class discrimination, transphobia, and dozens more examples. However, when these wrongdoings are confronted, and attention is drawn to them, people can get relief. For Taylor in the bean trees, she had to let herself look at the situation from a new angle, realising the pressures from her past and accepting that she lived in that world once, and lives in a new one now. During the humanist movement, the church had to be exposed for their lies in order for the public to accept this alternate perspective. Once the information was out there was actually a chance for acceptance. Now, right now, a similar thing is going on in the transgender community. When trump made the outrageous announcement about transgender members of the military, it was received with mixed reviews but soon talk about it quieted. Once the people started to call him out a fight back change actually happened. Judges started overruling the statement, clearing the air about what the law states. The three groups discussed represent one idea, the idea of individuality. Each of these people want to have the freedom to be themselves. Adversity is needed for change to occur. The pain is made stronger during the fight, but once the fight is over, people are able to make peace with their past and
