Obstacles Facing Adversity In 'Unbroken'

Horace quotes that “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which is prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” I believe Horace is right because adversity causes difficulty and people perform better than they would if they were not facing adversity. Adversity is a difficult or unlucky situation or event. When circumstances or situations work against someone, they face adversity. In the book Unbroken, the main character Louis Zamperini faces many obstacles that test his mortality. Louis’s war experiences seemed to defy all hope. His survival appeared impossible during his time on a raft in the middle of the ocean and throughout his inhumane treatment as a prisoner of war. For his diabetes to not become worse my grandpa had to be really careful of what he ate. My grandpa later got a cut on his foot that would later turn out to become very serious. At first he thought nothing of it but when it would not heal my family grew concerned and took him to see a doctor. The doctors said the cut had not been able to heal and had become very infected so they were going to need to amputate half his leg to stop the infection from spreading. The surgery went fine but my grandpa was going to need a wheelchair before he could learn to walk on his new leg. This caused him to want to walk again as fast as possible and although it took some time he eventually learned to walk as he had before. My grandpa learned to walk again and is now fully recovered. An example of adversity that is personal to me is this football season I played. The football team had not reached the playoffs in about five years and was doubted of making it this year. All of the team wanted to go to the playoffs at end of the season. This caused us to work harder in practice and more determined to win. We won enough gamed to qualify for the playoffs and the team accomplished the goal it had since the beginning of the
