The Civil War was caused because of economic issues. In document two the two maps show how the South was not producing as many goods as the North. Just like how the North was not producing as much cotton. Which resulted in the North and South depending on each other. Which did cause issues because of the Norths and Souths different opinions. Before the Kansas-Nebraska act was passed, there was the Missouri Compromise of 1820. The Missouri Compromise is what set of the boundaries between free states and slave states. It caused fights between the North and the South because the North had more land for states, while the South didn’t have much. The Kansas-Nebraska act allowed white settlers decide if Kansas and/or Nebraska should be a free or slave state. This is called popular sovereignty. This also caused many fights to happen because Missourians went to Kansas and/or Nebraska to make them slave states.
