In Wampold (2011) article, he discusses 14 attributes of a good therapist. Working with survivors of child abuse and their families, it is highly important to possess good interpersonal skills, as well as act in a trustworthy manner.
The individuals I provide services for are generally angry, hurt, sad, shocked, and in disbelief by the time they reach me. Some of them have even loss hope. It is my job to be empathic about what they are faced with and focus my attention only on them and their situation. I provide services to them in a warm manner, while being very upfront and honest. Some of the ways that I am upfront and honest is by telling them the truth when they ask questions that may pertain to other disciplines, such as law enforcement or the department of human resources. When my clients have questions that are not related to my discipline, I refer them to the proper person so that he/she may be able to answer the question(s) correctly.
I show my clients warmth by actively listening to what brought them to my agency. I provide each client with both verbal (summarize their statement, asking for clarity when needed, etc.) and non-verbal cues (eye contact, open body language, etc.) to reassure them that their statement is very important and that they have

I am a very optimistic person. However, working with clients who appear to be hopeless can be very draining, and I sometimes find it difficult to provide them with hope. Just last week, I worked with a client with several mental health concerns that was extremely negative. I attempted to commend her on a few of her strengths and she constantly turned her strength into weaknesses. I found it very difficult to work with this client based on how I felt about her not maintaining her condition adequately. I had to seek supervision in order to further work with the
