Dubois was the director of publicity and research for the NAACP. The NAACP led the main campaign to end Jim Crow segregation altogether. But before they could tackle that they had to take care of the inequality in education. Dubois once said, “Education is that whole system of human training within and without the school house walls, which molds and develops men” (VHS). The NAACP fought for the rights of blacks to go the college and have a good public education. Their legal and social fight helped win the admission of a black student to the University of Maryland Law School because the state did not have any kind of institution for blacks (VHS). This lead to Virginia and other like southern states adopting a policy or gifting scholarships to black students. This included professional and graduate schools outside of state also (VHS). Unfortunately this was eventually rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court. This rejection happened in December of 1938, and an editor, Virginius Dabney said this decision severely jolted the South’s educational system (VHS).
