Victoria Secret Advertisement Analysis

The majority of the time when there is an offensive advertisement it is targeted to women. Sometimes advertisements try to alter the beliefs of women by making them believe that they are supposed to look a certain way. Thousands of young girls around the world have looked at advertisements with skinny beautiful women and wondered “why don’t I look like her?”
Victoria Secret is a well-known brand amongst a lot of young women. It is nationally known for their “angels.” The “angels” are a group of woman who are beautiful and super skinny. In late 2014 Victoria Secret put out a campaign with ten of the angels. The campaign was supposed to broadcast “The Perfect Body”. The ten models on the advertisement were very skinny and tall. Advertisements like this makes young woman feel unbeautiful and cause them to go to extreme lengths to try to mimic what they see. Veronica Granja-Sierra in Elite Daily mentioned that “The pressure to achieve an unrealistic body ideal is now the underlying cause of serious health issues. Most girls are left with mixed reactions to the images they are seeing on their television screens. Aside from comparing themselves to the models on TV, women feel even more pressure to attain that idealistic body image.” (Granja-Sierra). In cases like this woman may try to lose weight trying to look like the models and end up major health conditions such as anorexia, bulimia and over- excretion at the gym just to get that “The Perfect Body”. Jennifer Siebel Newsom, of The Huffing Post writes” Hyper-sexualization and self-objectification are already national health problems, and as many as 60 percent of young women don 't pursue the things they are most passionate about in life because of body dissatisfaction. Teaching teenage girls to see their value as a measure of how their body looks -- a central tenant of all Victoria 's Secret advertisement”
