Students with different abilities such as being deaf or hard of hearing or having trouble seeing may be left out of class discussions or information presented in class. Using universal design, one way to increase accessibility to instructions and information would be giving them out over multiple modes of communication such as orally, written, and/or electronically (Colburn 8). This is but one of many strategies teachers can use in the classroom to make it more inclusive. Strategies such as these benefit all students and promote an inclusive environment. Students may miss class for various purposes or may have trouble paying attention in class for some reason but would still have access to information electronically. One way costs can be minimized would be to utilize the professors already at Baylor, such as Dr. Ritter, to teach some of the classes in the program. Other professors could receive training in this field. As far as the building costs, some of these costs can be minimized by adding them to the current renovations happening on campus now. Also, implementing universal design now means the university would not have to pay for accommodations later.
