Social Anxiety refers to excessive fear of inadequate performance or social interaction. In adults and children, it has been associated with shyness and low self-esteem. The purpose of the research conducted was the findings that were applied to the emotional process associated with Type D personality and its components with social and general anxiety within the population. Poor emotional regulation may explain poor behaviors and anxiety with Type D personality. There is also enough information obtained to alter the approaches in the individuals that participate in the research. Some of the research could be divided into separate groups by how they were contacted, (personally, by mail or by phone). The participating individuals could also be divided by age, race, trauma or sexual orientation to distinguish if those are contributing factors. Medically relevant illness and psychological factors are most likely associated with general and social anxiety. If I were conducting this research, I would request this information. It is important to include biological and psychological well-being in the research due to the influences these can have on the human mind.
The link associated in this research between Type D personality and social or general anxiety may serve as a starting point for better cognitive treatment. In order to understand how to treat anxiety in all forms of severity, this research has definitely made an impact.
