As children, we have learned not to put stuff in our mouth, or pick up something from the ground. These rules have been drilled into minds and we live by them. However, for Tisha, she had to disregard all that she was taught and do whatever she needs to do to survive. She had many of these moments while lost in the woods. One of them was when she caught a fish. Seeing this meat turned on a feral attitude in her. “She acted with no planning or consideration; her body brushed her mind aside and simply took over” (King 194). She has not had meat in such a long, a for a kid, that's a long time to go out without protein. We all need protein to be strong. Without having meat for a week, she is weak and ill. Usually, people would not eat a raw fish, they would cook it. But, all her ID could think about that she needed meat. “…the ID wants whatever feels good at the time, with no consideration for the reality of the situation” She is cold, weak, sick, can't hold anything down, and probably dying at the moment. None of this matters when she sees that squirming fish, in other words meat. All she cares about is getting that fish in her stomach without considering the detrimental causes that could happen to her, in addition to her already existing problems. Having some type of real food, puts her to ease on about to eat, knowing in the back of her mind that this is bad idea, but this doesn’t matter. While having all these problems and not having her conscience to help guide her, it will be a long journey of survival for
