Salva is a young boy in a tribe called the Dinka tribe. They are enemies with the Nuer tribe. A war breaks out while Salva is in school and his teacher tells him to run into the bush away from home. Salva is a character in Linda Sue Park's novel, A Long Walk to Water. The book describes the struggle for Salva, who had to run away because a war broke out. The outline of the story shows that in reality, many kids face this trouble. Salva proves that people are capable of being able to survive on their own and will always find a way back home safely and sound, well at least he hopes. Once salva ran to the bush, he discovered he was alone and that he could not come back to his family. The factors that were helpful for the survival of Salva in a …show more content…
Throughout the novel, Salva's uncle kept him alive when he was in challenging environments. There is not much food for Salva and the tribe he is with because they are running away from their town and they didn't bring food because everyone had to run and get away from the war as fast as they could. They must keep walking without food, until finally his uncle shoots an animal for the members of the tribe to eat. In the novel it shows ’’Salva could hardly wait for it to be skinned and butchered and roasted. As the smoky, meaty aroma filled the air, he had to keep swallowing the saliva that flooded his mouth. Uncle laughed as he watched Salva gobble down his first piece of meat...’’ (Park 36). This was very important to Salva and the tribe he was with because they hadn't eaten for a while now. They are super hungry so this is an amazing moment for them because they hadn't eaten in weeks. For Salva, this a dream come true, considering that he hasn't eaten for weeks. He …show more content…
Salva was able to control himself in tough times like savoring water when he needed big gulps but only took little sips. In the novel it quotes,´´It was the hardest thing Salva had ever done, taking only tiny sips when his body cried out for huge gulps of thirst-quenching, life-giving water,´´(Park,53). This quote shows that Salva has control over his actions and tried to keep himself from dying . If Salva would have not stinted himself and instead drank his whole gourd-full in that moment in time, when he really needed it, he would have used it up and and probably would have died. Salva is making sure to choose his actions wisely. In the book,’’ Salva is a very smart young kid who knows how to control himself. In the book it says,’’Listening to Uncle, hurrying to stay close to him, Salva was able to make his feet move despite the cold terror throughout his whole body..’’ (Park,41) This quote shows that Salva knows how to control himself without crying and stopping and slowing the group down. Salva understands that coming on this journey was going to be a risk. The last survival factor that I choose is Salvas courage because Salva has so much courage in himself and in others like how he has courage to walk faster and faster than before. In the text,´´Salva was amazed to find himself walking faster than he had been before.’’(Park,65) This shows that Salva has courage in himself to make him walk faster. In the book,’’Salva would

In the passage “What Has Happened Here” Elsa Barkley Brown believes that women’s history should be inclusive of gender, race, and culture as these have important significance in shaping outcomes and society perspective. She talks about how historians like to “isolate one conversation” (297) to explore them to tailor its dialogue to fit different narratives. This however in turn loses significant facts that should not be left out when shaping the details. Barkley is adamant about the importance of Anita Hill’s race in the testimony of the sexual harassment case. Thinking that in order to make the public more sympathetic and keep the case simplified they should focus strictly on the sexual harassment of a women by a man.…

A Man With All His F-a-c-u-l-t-i-e-s Intact J.D. Salinger is an author with a complicated past of misogyny, pedophilia, and abusing his female spouses. Former lover of Salinger’s, though she prefers not to be remembered that way, and author, Joyce Maynard, has said, “The vision that emerges of Salinger’s relationships with women… is a bleak one, suggesting a man who spent his life fixated on a fantasy of youthful innocence while refusing to contend with the realities of day-to-day domestic love” (Dean). This point is supported very well not only by actions throughout his life, but in the way he wrote, from submissive female roles to encouraged hyper-masculinity. While likely not the first major theme die-hard Salinger fans would find in his writing, Salinger’s misogyny plays a very significant role in his literary expression, as well as…

Winnemucca hoped her writings would have the desired outcome of forcing change and getting public opinion and government officials on the sides of Native American tribes. Winnemucca portrayed cross-cultural interaction as inevitable. Nevertheless early interactions with white settlers and pioneers set the tone for all the following years of Winnemucca’s life.…
