How To Prevent Tillamook Flood

Improved Essays
Tillamook floods are such a pain, but common every year at the same time every year. They fill up downtown and do thousands of dollars of damage to buildings and personal belongings to the residents tat live in that area. The only question people ask is why? Why does it flood and why haven 't we solved this problem already? Tillamook is known as the land of many waters, and of course, it holds up its name proudly. No one really knows who came up with the name first, but it surely does fit our feelings for the town. Growing up in Tillamook, I start to notice more and more of the horrifying damage the rain water and rivers do to our town. According to the Tillamook County Department of Community Development, "DO NOT ENTER FLOOD WATER!" flood …show more content…
Our town is already so small and has a low budget to fix her up, we surely cannot afford losing so much in such a short time. My guess is that if we do not figure out how to prevent these damaging occurrences, then we cannot have the things our community wants, such as a mall or even more retail stores and super marts. Our economy as a county would be deprived of income and people will start avoiding Tillamook. This includes any outside resources that we get, such as tourists and donations, and any wealthy community members who decides that Tillamook is too much of a hassle to deal with. Recently, we have had a lot of success gaining more buildings that gave people more choices to shop at and more color to our town, but who is to say that one day, we will have a massive flood again like in 2004 that puts those places out of business. We can 't risk going back anymore. So Tillamook floods aren 't only a kids hope for no school, it is also a huge tax every year that downtown Tillamook and any other close by river resident has to face. There aren 't many ways to prevent water from falling from the sky, but if our community works together, we can stop this cause. We can 't solve the problem if no one is willing to work and find out how. Our community needs us. It 's not how we will prevent the water from flooding our town anymore. Now, it is all about

In large managed river basins and water systems such as the Columbia, Missouri, the state and federal California reservoir systems, the Colorado River, the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint, and others, drought creates or exacerbates conflicts about who should get water. The most common conflicts pit older, established uses such as agriculture and navigation against newer uses such as recreation and water for growing municipal populations, and water for direct human use against water for ecosystems.…

The beginning of August 2016, a national issue occurred in a remote corner of North Dakota over the construction of a new 1,200-mile pipeline across Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. It is a great fear to the tribe in the Standing Rock Reservation that if the pipeline is to be built in this location near Missouri river a leak is probable. If an oil spill were to happen, it will not only destroy the water supply for Standing Rock Reservation but it would also destroy 50% of South Dakota's potable water supply. The risk is too profound for the sake of all the members of this community and the surrounding environment. It is important to me for these people to get the chance to have a voice on this crucial matter because it is happening in own…

I live in Alpena, Michigan; it’s a pretty small town. There are plenty of things we could do to make it a better community. For example, if our community would engage in more volunteer work, like helping the Alpena Huron Human Society and cleaning up the streets, Alpena’s appearance and reputation would would be affected in a positive way. To give Alpena a more friendly approach to tourist and people living here we could participate in volunteer work. It’s a great thing you could do that doesn’t cost the community a lot of money, if any at all.…

California Water Crisis How would you feel if you didn’t have enough water to use the restroom everyday, or if you couldn’t shower for over 6 months? Being that California has been in a gargantuan drought for the past 4 to 5 years, water has been in short supply in more places than not. Farmers claim that they should be allowed unlimited access to the state’s supply of groundwater, solely in view of money crops. Ironically, while farmers are making these claims there are people in these towns, traveling 3 to 6 hours to get a gallon of water to last their families a week. Many believe that there should be regulations and water control considering farmers are complaining that they grow crops to sell,…

The Flint water crisis is a drinking water contamination issue in Flint, Michigan that started in April, 2014. These past 3 years have been an extremely hard time for Flint residents since they have had no proper drinking or bathing water in 2 years, so residents have been taking a stand against the government by carrying around jugs full of dirty, unsafe drinking water coming from their faucets at home to protest against the inaction of the government. The residents have a lot of courage to be standing up to what they think is right and fighting for those rights, much like the “Freedom Riders” in the movie “The Butler”. In 2014, Flint, Michigan decided to switch their water source to the Flint River from Lake Huron because of them spiraling…
