What’s interesting is that there is a distinction between these two crimes that is merely only separated by the small factor that human smuggling can turn into human trafficking. To demonstrate, migrants who voluntarily decided to be smuggled are often time struggle to pay their debts back to the smuggler, which in turn, becomes trafficked(Naim,2005). This happens because often smugglers enact a large debt on those who were smuggled, who are compelled to pay off their debts prior to being freed.
