Utilitarianism is a theory in which aids decision making. It follows the rule of the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Followers of this theory include: Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. In my opinion I believe that utilitarianism is the most ethical theory because it helps and shows love the most amounts of people. It has several samples of evidence which also persuades me that it is the most ethical theory.

This is certainly strength for the theory. It is a matter of common sense that if we want to perform moral deeds toward people, we should wish to make them happy. For utilitarianism, it does not matter at all whether we intend to make people happy. Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory - it pays attention to consequences; all that matters is that the outcome of our action redounds to the greatest possible happiness of the greatest possible number. Although it seems natural to take into consideration the consequences of an action before we make a decision it is sometimes difficult to predict with accuracy. Utilitarianism is critisised by John Rawls who says it dosent look at the indivdual rights of a person and is too impersonal. This suggests that utilitarianism is more about creating overall happiness than specific happiness. Natural law could be more ethical as its universal application, it allows a multicultural world to unite and have common approaches to issues such as abortion to back this up St Paul says “even gentiles know the law” . It all began from a play called “Antigone” where a boy was refused burial and was buried anyway because of the natural reaction to want to bury the dead. It applies to cases such as King Darrius where one culture ate the remainds of their fathers and the others burnt them. They both belived this was right due to culutual relavtism so this could be a weakness of natural law suggeting that just because nature is this way dosent mean its the right
