What would happen if society speed up so much that murders were overlooked, billboards were built miles long and books were outlawed, knowledge was forbidden, and memories were hard to come by one man by one man in this crazy world knew there was something better. Guy Montag is a fireman, a man who burns books for a living but through many trials and difficulties he realizes that books hold a deeper meaning and could over all be good for society. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, you will find that Guy Montag changes his view on society as the story progresses he is influenced by many people, views on his job, and the overall environment of the world around him.

Another reason why Montag 's dramatic change is the environment that he is subjected to a world filled with war, crime, and a society that is narrow minded even the simplest of things as friendship is considered strange “[they] cannot tell precise moment when friendship is formed. As in killing a vessel drop by drop, there is a drop which makes it run over so in a series of kindnesses there is at least one which makes heart run over.”(67) When society denies the thought of friendship one would not be surprised if you were to revolt like Montag did. In the story the setting of the world that Montag lives in it appears to be in a war like state “The jet bombers going over, going over, one two, one two, one two six of them,one and one and one and another and another and another did all the screaming for him.”(11) The surroundings that Montag indoors from day to day effects him to try to find a different way of life one behind a book he is forced to go through the many different obstacles to receive this world with peace.
