On February 11, 2016, the United States Department of Homeland Security, to ease the nation’s growing concern about the spread of the arising Zika virus released a press statement outlining the actions being taken to minimize the malicious effects of the virus. In cooperation with The Department of Health and Human Services, which concentrates on defending against diseases, the government works on raising funds to better handle the outbreak, centralizing the problem to prevent exposure, and educating the population on the issue. Since the Zika outbreak prevailed in Latin America, the United States carefully allocated the necessary supervision and precautions for people entering the country, watching for symptoms indicating the presence of the virus to further avoid contamination. These measures are being considered not only at airports, but at border entries and sea ports as well. A problem well identified within the system is the inability to ensure that those entering the country are virus free since symptoms are not always apparent. To emphasize, people carrying the virus may not know they carry the infection. It is because of this that better precautions are still being contemplated. For those showing symptoms or deemed of carrying the virus there will be screenings, blood tests, and medical attention provided.
