Though the first half of the 95 Theses is very intellect, it does not differ much from that of the second half. Martin Luther is consistent on focusing on the constant indulgences of the church. He wants people to realize that God is in control of their faith, not the pope. In theses 62, Luther says “The true treasure of the church is the Holy gospel of the glory and the grace of God.” meaning that the main goal church should be the gospel and the grace of God. Theses 63 refers back to the indulgences stating that “It is right to regard this treasure as most odious, for it makes the first to be the last.”. Luther wanted the people to realize how evil indulgences truly were. Theses 64, “On the other hand, the treasure of indulgences is most acceptable, for it makes the last to be the first.”, is basically a continuous of 63, meaning that while it may seem harmles at first, indulgences make the most evil seem good. Theses 75, “It is foolish to think that papal indulgences have so much power that they can absolve a man even if he has done the impossible and violated the mother of God.”, reminds the people that it is wrong to think that pardons have to power to get rid of all sin.
The last few theses’ really question why the pope seems to have so much power. Martin Luther seems to be asking the people to truly think about why it is fair for the pope to be above God’s rule.
