Germany allied with Austria-Hungary. France allied with Russia. Britain allied with France. Japan allied with Britain. The United States and Italy were neutral until later in the war. Imperialism was a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Many big countries like Russia used this method but countries didn’t like the fact that Russia could intervene in their foreign affairs. Nationalism was also a very unfavorable method which was used by the United States. After all of this world war was officially declared. The sides were called the Allied Powers and the Central Powers. The allied powers were made up of China, Poland, United Kingdom, France, British Empire, India, Kingdom of Belgium, Kingdom of Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Norway, United States, Brazil, Japan, Argentina, and United Nations. These countries knew what was supposed to be the right outcome for the war. The opposing group to the allied powers was the Central Powers. This group consisted of Italy, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The armistice was between all of the countries involved in the war. This armistice led to the upbringing of the League of Nations. The League of Nations was established in June 28, 1919.
Oddly when the League of Nations was first formed the Treaty of Versailles was also made. The allied nations signed it (Britain, France, Italy and Russia).Germany had no part in the Treaty terms and maybe that was the downfall of it. In the end Germany was forced to sign the treaty. Included in the treaty was their terms to live by for the time being. The Treaty of Versailles terms were that they had to take responsibility for the whole war when it was really caused by all of the countries involved in the war and they had to get rid of most of their army.
Germany was only limited to 10000 soldiers. Germany’s war weapons were destroyed and the manufacture of more was illegal and void of the terms of the treaty. Germany couldn’t have any war type ships besides six naval battle vessels and a fewer smaller ships. During the war Germany took lots of territory and the treaty said that Germany had to return all of it back to its owners.
