I saw in the interview that the focus on this relationship was significant in doing casework. The meaning of the relationship with individuals as a caseworker is very important. The relationship is dynamic because of the constant interaction of the feelings and attitudes between the social worker and the client which may increase or decrease throughout the problem-solving process, but never ceases as long as the relationship continues (Biestek, 1957). Some of the major qualities required to be a helping person has a wide span. During this interview my self- awareness kicked in, so I immediately started thinking about my relationship with my clients during Practicum. Did we have a relationship or a helping relationship? According to Dalai Lama a helping relationship is our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.
