The Republic of Serbia has a strong and compelling history of prioritizing migratory policy. Migration is a multifaceted and international issue caused by a myriad of reasons such as, globalization and technological advancements, liberalization of labor markets, increased frequency of internal armed conflict, general oppression by Member State governments, and an increasing frequency and severity of disasters. The Republic of Serbia aims to enact solutions that will reduce the current negative repercussions while maintaining, if not increasing, the positive outcomes of migration. Recently the Republic of Serbia has suffered disproportionately in comparison to other Southeastern European nations in the region, in regards to the high influx of Syrian refugees caused by civil war, a prime example of forced migration. Just recently,in October 2015, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that 10,000 refugees were stranded within Serbian borders as a result of immigrants being pushed out of other neighboring southeastern European countries. This incident highlights the importance cooperation with other Member States, especially between Member States that are in geographical proximity to one another, or crises like this will continue to happen.
